University of London is offering Masters scholarship for lower and middle income countries students to start their studies. The Sadako Ogata Scholarship covers the whole course fee (currently worth a total of £8,220).
Sadako Ogata served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from 1991 to 2000. She oversaw major emergency operations in northern Iraq, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and the Great Lakes region of Africa. She also directed the UNHCR to provide more for internally displaced people and other vulnerable civilians in conflict situations.
This scholarship celebrates her inspiring contribution to the protection of refugees and displaced persons. It promotes the study of refugee protection by outstanding candidates who are limited by financial circumstances, especially those based in low or middle-income countries.

Eligibility for the Scholarship:
- Eligible Countries: Applicants from lower and middle income countries (…, South Africa, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Sudan, Suriname, Swaziland, Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tonga, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Venezuela, RB, Vietnam, West Bank and Gaza, Yemen, Rep., Zambia and Zimbabwe) are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
- Entrance Requirements: Applicants for the Sadako Ogata scholarship must satisfy all of the following:
- You have an offer to study the MA Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies for the March intake.
- You are unable to accept it without financial support.
- You are a national of (and reside in) a low/lower-middle-income country.
- You are able to demonstrate outstanding academic merit or potential (particularly by your achievements).
(Current University of London students or former applicants for this or the Guy S. Goodwin-Gill scholarships are not eligible to apply.)
- English Language Requirements: Applicants must have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction of the host university.
