Scholarships for International HAW Hamburg Master students in Germany, 2019

Hamburg University of Applied Sciences has invited applications for academic scholarships available from international students who currently studying there at the university. Scholarships are awarded for pursuing masters degree programme.

This scholarship aims to assist high achieving and highly motivated international research scholars at Hamburg University. Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) is one of the largest of its kind in Germany.

Applicants must have completed their school education outside of Germany or have graduated from a Studienkolleg. Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Scholarship Description

  • Applications Deadline: 30 April 2019
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available to Master’s level programs.
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study any of the courses offered by the university.
  • Scholarship Award: 1.800 Euros per semester.
  • Nationality: Internationally
  • Number of Scholarships: Two scholarships are available
  • Scholarship can be taken in Australia

Eligibility for the Scholarship:

  • Eligible Countries: All countries are invited to apply.
  • Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to apply for the scholarship:
    • You are an international Master student at the HAW Hamburg and are studying in the Regelstudienzeit* (*the number of semesters defined for the completion of your degree). (If you are at the end of your studies, meaning that you only have one semester left until you finish your studies, you can apply for the Degree Completion Grant.)
    • You completed your school education outside of Germany or successfully graduated from a Studienkolleg
    • You successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree
    • Your GPA is at least 2,5.
    • You are not entitled to BAföG, i.e. you do not fulfill the requirements of § 8 of the Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (BAföG) (If you are unsure please contact the BAföG Amt. You should definitely do this if you do not have a residency permit according to §16 Aufenthaltsgesetz or are an EU citizen)
    • Students studying the degree programmes Public Health, Public Management, Social and Health Management may not apply for the scholarship

Application Procedure:

The following documents must be submitted for the application:

1. For an application in the first semester:

  • Letter of Motivation (max. 1 page)
  • Curriculum Vitae (max. 2 pages)
  • Letter of recommendation from a professor from the university where you completed your Bachelor’s degree(HAW form)
  • Copy of your uni-assist VPD document that clearly states the GPA of your Bachelor’s degree(only if you completed your Bachelor’s degree outside of Germany) 
  • Copy of your Bachelor’s certificate that clearly states the GPA of your Bachelor’s degree (only if you completed your Bachelor’s degree at a German university)
  • Confirmation of enrolment (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung, download from HELIOS)
  • Copy of your residence permit (for non-EU citizen) or ID/passport (for EU citizens)
  • Bank details (HAW form)

For an application after the first semester or for an extension:

  • Letter of Motivation* (max. 1 page)
  • Curriculum Vitae (max. 2 pages)
  • Letter of recommendation from a professor at the HAW Hamburg (HAW form)
  • Confirmation from the chairman of the examination board (HAW form)
  • Confirmation of enrolment (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung, download from HELIOS)
  • Transcript of records
  • Copy of your residence permit (for non-EU citizen) or ID/passport (for EU citizens)
  • Bank details (HAW form)

How to Apply: 

The application forms are available from the International Office of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and will be submitted by post. The scholarships are awarded by a commission of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.
